A shore excursion built for one problem: a cruise ship in Motril, the Alhambra inland, and a fixed number of hours before the gangway goes up.

The transfer runs from the Port of Motril to Granada, and the ticket carries priority access, so no part of the day is spent in the entrance queue. On a schedule this tight that is not a comfort, it is the difference between seeing the palaces and seeing the car park.

With a local guide the route covers the highlights of the complex: the Generalife Gardens and, depending on the option you book, the Nasrid Palaces. Check which version you are buying before you pay. The Nasrid Palaces are what most cruise passengers come inland for, and they are not on every option.

One thing to know before booking. The Alcazaba, the fortress end of the site, has been closed since the Granada earthquakes of August 2026 and stays shut while the structure is checked, with no reopening date announced. The Alhambra itself reopened on 19 August, on routes adapted for safety.

The Alhambra is on the UNESCO list and is a city, a fortress and a palace at the same time, built by the kings of the Nasrid dynasty who ruled Granada until 1492. Understanding that it is all three explains why it takes the shape it does on the hill.

Tickets are non-refundable, so the sailing date is worth confirming first.
