Buckingham State Rooms and a Royal Walk from the Victoria Memorial
The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace open only in summer (the operator gives 11 July to 29 September), so this is a booking with a season attached to it. The walk comes first, the palace after, and the tour ends inside the State Rooms.
The group meets at the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of the palace, then crosses Green Park to stop outside Clarence House, the 19th-century house where recent generations of royals, the current King among them, have lived. Next is St James's Palace: red brick, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century, the oldest royal palace in London and still a working one. Both are seen from outside. The route follows The Mall, the tree-lined avenue of processions, coronations and state celebrations, and stops at Wellington Barracks, base of the Foot Guards who protect the Royal Family.
Then the palace. Tickets are pre-reserved and skip the line, and inside you go at your own pace with the official audio guide: the White Drawing Room, the Throne Room and the other rooms the Royal Family still uses to receive guests, with treasures from the Royal Collection around them.
The guide speaks English, and a booking takes up to 15 people. It is a walking tour at a moderate pace. Hotel pickup and gratuities are not included.
Arrive 15 minutes early. The guide waits at the Queen Victoria Memorial holding a yellow WalksDevour sign.
