El Escorial Admission with a PDF Guide to Madrid's Royal Sites
Ratings collected by Tiqets
Admission to San Lorenzo de El Escorial, visited at your own pace, with a digital guide thrown in that covers more than this one building.
El Escorial is the most important piece of Spanish Renaissance architecture there is. The complex is a set of ranges around courtyards, laid out on a plan that repeats itself so exactly that visitors lose their bearings in it, and it is set among forest and fountains on the slope below the sierra. Philip II wanted a building that was legible as a single idea, and it still reads that way from the outside.
The ticket includes a PDF guide to the royal sites in and around Madrid. That is worth more than a leaflet on the monastery alone: the royal properties of the capital were built as a system, with the court moving between them by season, and having them described together is how the arrangement makes sense. It also gives you the practical facts for the rest of the trip.
No group, no fixed timing, and no guide waiting for you at the gate.
Tickets are non-refundable once confirmed.
