The Last Medici: Anna Maria Luisa, and Four Museums Under One Roof
The last Medici residence in Florence, with a private local guide.
The museum is organised around the daily life of the Medici grand dukes, from Cosimo I to the last of the line in the early 1700s: Ferdinando, Gian Gastone, and finally Anna Maria Luisa, the Electress Palatine, to whom the museum is dedicated and who is the reason any of this is still in Florence.
Beyond the civic and political business the rooms were built for, the palace holds a private collection of paintings, ancient sculpture, furniture and Florentine mosaic, along with the frescoes on the ceilings and walls.
There are four museums inside it: the Palatine Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Treasure of the Grand Dukes and the Museum of Fashion and Costume.
At the end of the guided visit, the guide hands over the entry to the Boboli Gardens.
