Eighteen Metres of Buddha from One Tree, and a Duck Lunch After
Two versions of the same itinerary, one half a day and one a full one.
The half-day option is the Temple of Heaven alone: the imperial architecture, the courtyards and the old cypress woods around them, and what the Ming and Qing sacrifices actually involved. Enough for anyone with an afternoon rather than a day.
The full day adds the Yonghe Lama Temple and the Summer Palace, with Peking duck for lunch. That combination puts three quite different things in a row: a place built for state ritual, a working Tibetan Buddhist monastery, and a royal park built for pleasure.
Timings are not fixed: traffic and the queues at each site can move the schedule on the day.
